Explore Speyside & The Highlands on a Whisky Tour from Edinburgh

Explore the Scottish Highlands and the heart of Malt Whisky Country, Speyside. Experience stunning scenery, hear tales of Scotland’s history and uncover the secrets of our national drink.

Itinerary

Day 1
We’ll depart Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh and escape the city stopping for a quick photo stop at Edinburgh’s iconic Forth road and rail bridges, before heading into the Kingdom of Fife. Here your whisky pilgrimage begins as we visit Lindores Abbey Distillery, the spiritual home of scotch whisky. We will tour their distillery and learn all about their whisky-making process before tasting 2 delicious drams of whisky. They also make Aqua Vitae, their award-winning handcrafted botanical spirit, delicious on its own or with a touch of ginger ale and orange.

Our journey continues north to another unique distillery, the Arbikie Distillery on the Angus coast. Here you will make a stop for lunch, before learning more about the unique and sustainable approaches to whisky production at Arbikie.

You will then continue to travel north along the coast to visit Dunnottar Castle. These spectacular ruins sit atop cliffs, and make for an incredible sight. The day would end in the city of Aberdeen, with accommodation at a four star hotel.

Day 2

The second day of the tour begins with a journey into the heart of Aberdeenshire to visit the GlenDronach distillery, here you will take a tour of the historic distillery, followed by a tasting of a selection of sherry cask matured GlenDronach expressions.

The journey continues by heading to Strathisla Distillery, where you get the chance to become a master blender and create your own blended whisky, followed by a Warehouse Tasting! You will then travel along the banks of the River Spey to the town of Grantown-on-Spey, where you will stay at a high quality, locally operated B&B for the next two nights of your tour with us.

Day 3

Today starts with a drive along the bank of the River Spey, followed by a visit to the iconic Glenlivet Distillery for a Single Cask Tasting. With an exciting history of illicit distilling, this is now one of the best known drams made in Scotland. You will then visit the GlenAllachie distillery for an opportunity to sample a range of unusual expressions, including distillery exclusives and an unusual peated Speyside whisky.

You would then make a stop for lunch at the Highlander Inn, which is renowned for its array of whiskies, before travelling to the Cardhu distillery for the third and final distillery of the day. Here you will have a tour of the distillery, followed by a tasting challenge, as you attempt to identify five whiskies.

Day 4

After a second restful night in Grantown-on-Spey, the final day of your tour will begin by visiting the Glenlivet distillery, home to one of the most famous names in Scotch Whisky production.

You would then travel through the stunning mountains of the Cairngorms National Park, to visit the town of Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire. After time for lunch and exploring the village, you will visit the Blair Athol for a distillery visit during your time on tour with us. Your will then travel back to Edinburgh, where your tour with us will end.

Due to various reasons (weather, closures and special events) it may not always be possible to visit all distilleries mentioned. Please be aware that, if this is the case, we will ensure that suitable alternatives are found.
